Swat, the picturesque valley known for tourism and emerald mining, has a developing scrap market rooted in its hydropower installations, hotel industry, and small-scale gem-processing and woodworking enterprises. The ongoing expansion of tourism infrastructure following the valley's stabilisation has boosted construction-related scrap volumes. Hydropower projects—including the 84 MW Jabban and multiple micro-hydro installations—periodically release turbine and penstock scrap.

Hydropower penstock and turbine-housing steel fetches PKR 100–120/kg owing to its thick-plate, high-quality composition. Hotel-renovation scrap comprising steel furniture frames, copper plumbing, and aluminium window sections trades at PKR 85–100/kg, PKR 1,780/kg, and PKR 430/kg respectively. Gem-cutting and lapidary equipment scrap, though low in volume, contains precision-steel and diamond-tooling components that attract specialist buyers. General construction rebar scrap averages PKR 90–108/kg.

The mountainous terrain of Swat makes transport costs a critical factor; sellers should consolidate scrap at a valley-floor collection point accessible to truck traffic before engaging dealers. Mingora's Kanju Road area hosts the most active scrap dealers in the district. For hydropower-origin scrap, obtaining a clearance letter from PEDO (Pakhtunkhwa Energy Development Organisation) ensures smooth transit through the multiple security checkpoints along the valley's access roads.
