Muzaffarabad, the capital of Azad Jammu & Kashmir, possesses a scrap market shaped by hydropower development, post-earthquake reconstruction, and timber-based industries operating in the forested Jhelum and Neelum valleys. The 969 MW Neelum-Jhelum Hydropower Project and multiple smaller installations generate turbine, penstock, and transmission-line scrap. The mountainous terrain and limited road network in Muzaffarabad make transport logistics the single largest determinant of net scrap value; sellers located in remote side-valleys should consolidate at a main-road-accessible point before engaging dealers. The Lower Chatter and Chattar Domel areas are Muzaffarabad's primary scrap-trading zones. Hydropower-project contractors should coordinate scrap disposal with AJK's Environmental Protection Agency, as valley ecosystems are sensitive and improper waste handling attracts both regulatory penalties and community opposition.
